Job Summary & Essential Functions:

Fits work into jigs and fixtures, performs manual or semi-automatic arc welding, using weld machines properly, visually inspects weld work, repairs defective welds, and operates forklift or crane.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

* Fits, aligns, and clamps work, usually in jigs and fixtures, to prepare for welding steel.
* Performs manual or semi-automatic arc welding of railcar parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies on the bench, floor, or assembly line.
* When using weld machine maintains heat and speed of travel to assure penetration and weld bead size, grinds work incidental to welding, removes weld slag, and preheats work.
* Visually inspects weld work, repairs defective welds, and performs minor repairs to equipment.
* Performs occasional air arc or flame cutting to help repair defective welds.
* Operates forklift or hook and hitch to overhead crane to move material.
* Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintained.
* Performs other duties as directed by the Production Group Leader.

Required Experience / Education / Training / Certifications:

* Prefer a high school education or equivalent, and either experience in welding or an interest in production welding.
* Requires individual to pass applicable welding tests to work as a welder.

Licenses, Certifications, etc:

* Appropriate ARI Welding certifications for the area in which they will be working

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required:

* Hard Hat

* Composite Toe Safety Shoes
* Addition PPE per the appropriate JSA for the specific area that the Welder Class 1 - Production may be working
